Having the wrong student account can cost you lots of hard earned dollars. Many of us are shocked when we actually see how much money the banks charge us a month, but this thankfully doesn’t have to be the case! If you pick the right bank account then you can use your funds for more important things like travelling the world, funding your education or going out with friends.

In our opinion, the best student account is Scotiabank’s Student Banking Advantage Plan. This no-fee account offers unlimited transactions, unlimited e-transfers, and the ability to receive Scene points for free movies.

Another great option is CIBC’s Smart for Students – offering unlimited free transactions and unlimited e-transfers.

Other options are Simplii or Tangerine Bank, but these banks have much fewer physical locations and it can be difficult to get help when you need it. You can find more about online accounts here.
